Venus Fly Traps
Venus fly traps grow in rosettes close to the ground. Each rosette produces several leaves, each ending in a specialized trap that captures prey. Leaves are bright green with red or pink inner trap surfaces. Each trap has two lobes with fine, sensitive hairs along the edges that trigger closure when prey touches them. In late spring to early summer, Venus flytraps produce small, white flowers on tall stalks that rise well above the leaves to prevent trapping pollinators. The plant thrives in moist, acidic soil and requires full sun to partial shade.
